Website Design
What more could anyone want?
Added Value
How can you give your visitors something that will make them
return? Something that will enhance their experience of your site
so that they are likely to pass the site on to their friends?
The key here is added value, and that essentially means
freebies. However there are more types of free content that you
might think.
Firstly, there's interactivity on the site. Message boards or
forums, polls, guestbooks, feedback forms, contests, "tell a
friend" buttons, quizzes... the list is potentially endless
and these quite cheap and simple things can really add to a
page.
Secondly, there are things that can be downloaded or otherwise
used elsewhere. Tutorials (like this one) would come under this
heading. Awards programs do, too. Offering your own greeting cards has recently become a popular service.
Options to be e-mailed when content is updated, a What's New page,
or simply converting large articles to text format and offering
them as a zipped download can all add value to the visitor with
very little work involved on your part.
The key to getting the mix right is to put yourself in the
visitors' shoes for a moment and think "What would enhance my visit
to this site? What can I use? What will make me come back?" If you
can answer those questions, and act on the answers, then you'll
have a site that people visit again and again.
